Edward A. "Ted" Hoover
Ted Hoover, devoted husband, father, grandfather, business owner and civic leader died July, 5th at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a long illness. He was 84. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Alexander and Elva Charlesworth Hoover; his brothers, John “Sandy” and Horace “Snicky”; and his eldest son, Ted, Jr.
Ted was born in Tyrone, PA, but moved to Charleston, SC at an early age. He considered Charleston his home. He was a 1954 graduate of Clemson A&M University and a die-hard Tiger Fan all of his life. He served as a tank squadron commander during the Korean War. After a time operating a finance company, he relocated to Savannah where he owned and operated Hoover Chrysler Jeep Dodge for 40 years.
He was a past President of the Savannah Auto Dealers Association, President of the Regional Dealer Advertising Association for Chrysler Corporation for many years, a member of LaVida Country Club, and a recipient of a lifetime membership in the Savannah Quarterback Club where he was a member since 1974.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Sweat Hoover; his son, David; a daughter-in-law, Michelle; and his granddaughter, Madison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10th at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church on Middleground Road.
